Marilyn’s Soul Sessions

Have you ever noticed how fast life gets busy and how easy it is to put off taking care of yourself? I think that’s especially true when you have big dreams and are working to deliver value to an expanding group of people.

Serving others adds volumes of meaning to your days. It also adds a large to-do list. We want to think that we’ll get through the list, and then we’ll rest.

That’s not how it works.

If you’re really in the business of living your dreams, your list keeps growing because you’re always growing, evolving, having fun, helping more people, and exploring life.

Right dab-smack in the middle of living your dreams, serving others, making this world a better place, and your day-to-day living, you need to make time to care for yourself.

Weekly Wisdom: “Self-care is so important. When you take the time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.” – Eleanor Brown

Here’s a forgotten truth (even when you’re living the dream).

You can pop out of bed each morning, excited about what you get to do and who you get to help. Your life, love, and work might thrill you to your very core. That kind of life is awesome, and I highly recommend it.

However, being happy and fulfilled doesn’t change that you’re human.

None of the great stuff in your life excludes you from needing rest, recovery, nourishment, and support. If you ignore those things, you’ll drain your energy and reserves.

And once that happens, it doesn’t matter if you got that way out of love or drudgery. You’ll be too sick and tired to do any of the things you love with and for the people you love.

Instead, do something like this (even if it’s just three to ten minutes each day):

  • Listen to your favorite song
  • Snuggle with someone you love
  • Sit in the sunshine or take a short walk
  • Share your challenges with a trusted friend, even if they can’t fix it or do anything but listen
  • Breathe and be present

Whatever technique you use, choose to take care of yourself so that you can live your dreams and love your life as much as you want for as long as you want.

Next week, I’ll be live on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. PT. My guest is Ana Maria Vasquez, and we’ll be talking about taking big risks. Does following your Guides lead you closer to your heart and result in rewarding pay offs, or does it just teach you a tough lesson? I’d love to see you there!

XO,

Marilyn
